Mariette Richter is well-known in Oxfordshire as Leader of Oxford Symphony Orchestra, D’Aranyi String Quartet and Head of Strings at Abingdon School. She leads, plays solos and coaches several local orchestras and chamber music groups including twelve ensembles at Abingdon School and is popular as a teacher.
Mariette was born in South Africa where she gained a BMus degree at the University of Pretoria. She came to England on an ABRSM scholarship to study joint violin and piano at the Royal Academy of Music, London under the late Emanuel Hurwitz (violin) and Alexander Kelly (piano). She continued her academic studies at Goldsmith’s College and gained a Masters degree in Music Analysis. She is also a brilliant pianist and often accompanies her pupils in diploma examinations and concerts.
Mariette became the conductor of OCO in 2010 and takes an active interest in the organisation, recruiting and nurturing of talented young musicians.

There are only 3 concerts a year with short, sharp and stimulating rehearsals.
There is normally a short audition.
