The Orchestra

The Oxford Concerto Orchestra is a unique and a very special youth orchestra that gives members the opportunity to perform a solo i.e. a concerto movement, accompanied mainly by strings, harpsichord and a small wind section. School-aged talented instrumentalists come from a wide area around Oxford and Oxfordshire and are of diploma and Gr. 7/8 standard.

OCO was formed 50 years ago by Paul Davies. Paul’s vision was to give as many players as possible the chance to perform a solo part during their time in the orchestra. There are three main concerts a year, each with three or four rehearsals per concert.

OCO performances are of a high standard and are recorded.

If you would like to or know someone who would like to work and play with the Orchestra, we would be delighted to hear from you. Our current conductor and coach is Mariette Richter who would be happy to audition young and talented players.

We welcome parent involvement. We have a very active committee who are involved with fundraising, publicity and recruitment.
